Amigos de Las Baulas is an outreach project that educates the businesses, local community members and tourists living near or visiting the Las Baulas National Park, Costa Rica, about the importance of their beaches to the Pacific leatherback sea turtle (Baula), and encourages everyone to help the turtles and their eggs on land.

Pacific leatherback turtles are critically endangered and they need your help.

What Can You Do?

  • Close your curtains at night.
  • Turn off outdoor lights from October through March.
  • Don’t use flashlights on the beach.
  • Keep beach furniture off the beach at night.
  • Keep garbage off the beach and out of the path of hatchlings.
  • Visit Las Baulas National Park and go on a turtle tour.
